Food & Beverage

There are many great options for eating in and eating out.  Below you will find information about how to order and have our place stocked, ready for your arrival.  There are also good options for stocking up right in the Village.  There also suggestions below for beer and wine.  Finally, while our place is great for eating in for all meals, you may wish to venture out and some of our favourite restaurants are listed below.

Stocking the Place Before You Get There/Here

Whether you are taking a shuttle bus or renting a car, you may want to order groceries and adult beverages on-line and have them delivered and stocked.  Yes, everything you order can be in the cupboards, drawers, and refrigerator when you arrive!  For this, especially if you are not renting a car or driving to Sun Peaks, we recommend Sun Peaks Cargo.  They will pick up your grocery order and adult beverage order, bring it to Village Walk #11, and have it all put away in time for your arrival.  This is a pretty great option if you are not renting a car and/or do not want to take the time to shop when you arrive or later during your stay.

The grocery order is placed and paid for by you online at a grocery store in Kamloops and then Sun Peaks Cargo will pick it up and deliver it for you.

For adult beverages, you have to submit your order to Sun Peaks Cargo and they will pick up the order and charge you directly for the cost.  Click here for details and also see the Beer & Wine  section below for some suggestions.

If you are renting a car or driving to Sun Peaks, you can also order online at the grocery stores in Kamloops.  The most convenient options are Save On Foods - Brocklehurst location and Cain's Your Independent Grocer.  And there is the good old-fashioned method of going into the store and shopping in real time!  Close to both grocery stores is the Brock Centre Liquor Store.

Stocking the Place when in Sun Peaks

The Bluebird Market is the local grocery store.  It carries a variety of groceries and products (including Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream) you would expect in a grocery store.  It is very convenient as it is only about a 5-minute walk from our place.  If you have rented a car, you of course can drive to Kamloops to grocery shop there as well.  The Sundance Liquor Store is your local option for beer, wine, etc. - see below for some more information on that front.

Beer & Wine

As we found out on our first visit to Sun Peaks, ordering beer and wine can be daunting when you are not local - how to sift through all the choice?!  With that in mind, below are some product tips from us.  While there are delivery options, you can also take a do-it-yourself approach by visiting the Sundance Liquor Store in the Village (or while in Kamloops at the stores listed earlier on this page).  The Sundance store has a pretty good selection and is reasonably priced when compared to the BC Liqour Store prices.  Here are some of our early favourites:

Beer

There are the usual suspects available in terms of beer, but here are some local craft options:

  •  Sneaky Weasel Craft Lager - this beer is even better than the name.  An easy drinking lager that is perfect for re-hydrating after a long or short day on the slopes.

  • For those who like pilseners, the Fernie Project 9 will be a refreshing hit.

  • Tree Brewing out of Kelowna has a good selection of various styles of beer.

  • Locomotive Lager is a solid beer by Iron Road, a local brewery in Kamloops.

  • If you are partial to an ESB, it will be hard to say no to a Naughty Hildegard.

  • The Round Trip Amber Ale from Red Truck Beer is a solid way to end the day.

Wine

Here are some B.C. options for those looking for a local wine experience:

Restaurants

With limited time thus far in Sun Peaks, we have limited sample size of dining out, but here are some clear winners:

  • Powder Hounds  - The schnitzel is as it should be - unglaublich (or incredible, for those not speaking German).  Although we have not tried it, the consistent word on the street is that the curry is amazing.

  • Voyageur Bistro - Fantastic early/pre Canada décor.  A true Canadian menu, do NOT let kids hold you back from trying this - our then 10-year old still has not stopped talking about the Legendary Bison Burger.  Make this a stop during your stay in Sun Peaks.

  • If you like poutine, you have to make a stop at Chez Joe Poutine.

  • A consistent hit is the Mountain High Pizza place.  Get there early if you are thinking of it for lunch.  Pick up and delivery.

  • For some amazing crepes to suit kids and adults alike, stop at the Tod Mountain Cafe.

  • There are many apres ski/cocktail options.  We enjoy Morrisey's Public House.  There is a great patio and  there also are some pool tables inside in the back area.  There also generally seems to be a live music option at Morrisey's.  Added bonus is that this is the closest apres ski/cocktail option to our place, just a couple of minutes away.

  • We also found that The Annex and the Sunburst Bar and Eatery right on the slopes are pretty good.

  • Although we have not done it yet, high on our list to try is the Alpine Fondue and Starlight Descent option that involves dinner on the mountain in the Sunburst Bar and then a night ski down after dinner.  Note that kids have to be 13 years or older to join.
